Where My Home Inspection Training Started: ICA Canada

Before launching 365 Home Inspection in Winnipeg, one of the first important steps in my professional journey was completing my training through Inspection Certification Associates (ICA Canada).
ICA provides professional education for home inspectors across North America and has helped thousands of inspectors start and grow their careers in the inspection industry. Their training programs focus on the systems and components that make up residential buildings and how inspectors evaluate them in real-world conditions.
For anyone entering the home inspection industry, proper training is critical. Homes are complex systems made up of structural components, electrical systems, plumbing, roofing, HVAC systems, insulation, and much more. Understanding how these systems interact — and how they can fail — is essential to performing a thorough inspection.
My training with ICA Canada helped build the foundation for the work I do today through 365 Home Inspection.
Why Professional Training Matters in Home Inspection
A professional home inspection is much more than simply walking through a property and pointing out visible issues.
A qualified inspector needs to understand:
• Structural systems
• Roofing systems
• Electrical safety and components
• Plumbing systems
• Heating and cooling systems
• Building envelope performance
• Moisture and insulation issues
• Ventilation and indoor air quality
Professional training programs like those offered by ICA Canada help inspectors develop the knowledge needed to properly evaluate these systems and communicate findings clearly to clients.
For buyers, sellers, and property owners, this knowledge is extremely important. A detailed inspection can identify concerns early and help prevent costly surprises down the road.
Continuing Education in the Inspection Industry
Training doesn’t stop after completing a certification course. The building industry is constantly evolving with new construction methods, materials, and safety standards.
Since completing my training with ICA Canada, I’ve continued expanding my education and professional development through several industry organizations and certifications.
These include:
• Certified Master Inspector® (CMI)
• Certified Commercial Property Inspector (CCPIA)
• IAC2 Indoor Air Consultant certification
• NFPA fire safety knowledge and standards
• Manitoba Building Officials Association (MBOA) education
Continuing education is extremely important in this field because building practices change over time. Staying up to date helps ensure inspections remain thorough, accurate, and valuable to clients.
